Can you actually find a reliable 12-foot watercraft that handles both shallow marshes and open lakes without costing a fortune? I compared these options and read countless buyer reviews to see how they perform in real conditions. In my view, the Pelican lineup offers some of the best jon fishing boat designs for the price. Let me walk you through my honest, ranked comparison so you can pick the right hull for your next trip.

1. Pelican – Boat Intruder 12 – Jon Fishing Boat – 12 ft. – Great for Hunting/Fishing , Khaki / Beige
This model earned its specific ranking by delivering traditional utility at a very approachable price point. It strips away complicated extras in favor of a wide, stable flat-bottom hull that behaves much like a floating platform. I think this bare-bones approach appeals strongly to sportsmen who want a dependable hull rather than a luxury cruiser.
The open layout gives you plenty of room to arrange gear for hunting or fishing trips. You will find that paddling or mounting a small electric motor is straightforward thanks to the shallow draft. My main reservation with this stripped-back design is the lack of factory seating, meaning you will need to supply your own chairs.
Buyers note that the flat-bottom hull provides exceptional stability while standing up to cast.
Reviewers frequently mention that adding a small trolling motor transforms it into a quick river runner.
Users point out that you must purchase aftermarket seats for all-day comfort.

2. Pelican Catch Intruder 12 – Fishing Boat – Linear Khaki/Magnetic Grey – Lightweight Patented Ram-X™ material -2 metal motor mounts – High capacity – 12 ft
Anglers who demand maximum capacity and heavy gear loads will find their match right here. This model takes the traditional jon boat layout and upgrades the construction to durable, lightweight Ram-X material. What caught my eye during my research is the inclusion of dual metal motor mounts, which gives you fantastic flexibility for propulsion.
The generous weight limit lets you load up heavy coolers, batteries, and extra tackle without worrying about sluggish handling. I consider this the most complete 12-foot package for serious weekend fishermen. You should keep in mind that a hull this spacious requires a proper trailer for transport rather than a simple truck bed.
Customers consistently praise the impressive weight capacity for carrying heavy gear.
Feedback highlights the durability of the lightweight Ram-X material against rocks and stumps.
Reviewers appreciate the convenience of mounting a motor at either the bow or the stern.

3. Pelican – Bass Raider 10E Angler Fishing Boat – Ram-X™ Material – Ergo360 Seating System – Light Grey – 10.2 ft
An unexpected Ergo360 seating system sets this shorter model apart from traditional bench-style craft. Measuring just over ten feet, this compact watercraft is built specifically for navigating tight waterways where larger boats cannot squeeze. I find swivel seats a massive upgrade for casting comfort, making this a great option for solo anglers who fish small ponds.
The smaller footprint makes car-topping or loading into a truck bed much easier than hauling a full 12-foot trailer. You sacrifice some deck space and overall weight capacity compared to its larger siblings. In my estimation, the trade-off in roominess is well worth the gain in maneuverability on narrow creeks.
Reviewers love the 360-degree swivel seats for reducing back strain during long sessions.
Buyers note that the shorter length makes single-person transport and loading remarkably easy.
Users caution that storage space is quite limited compared to standard 12-foot models.

Choosing Between Them
Choosing the right watercraft depends entirely on where and how you plan to fish. For most anglers, my top recommendation is the Catch Intruder 12 because of its dual motor mounts and superior weight capacity. If you prefer a simpler utility layout, the standard Intruder 12 serves hunters and traditionalists exceptionally well, while the Bass Raider suits anyone tackling narrow creeks.
Remember that none of these models include a motor or a battery in the base price. You will need to budget separately for a reliable trolling motor and power source to complete your setup.
